Warrens zap Chargers
BLENDING youth and experience, double crown queens Pan American International Insurance Warrens made a stuttering but winning start to the defence of their Goddard Enterprises Limited senior volleyball knockouts on Wednesday night at the Kensington Bond.
Warrens needed five sets to hand Chargers their second successive loss – 19-25, 25-15, 25-20, 20-25, 15-9 – with Rhe-Ann Niles, Anthazia Mason and Talya Layne being well supported by Xhane Greenidge.
However, resting the veteran setter Sophia Walcott and giving court time to reserve Danielle Callender, gave Chargers an opening to build on their first set win.
Former Barbados captain Thonya Joseph, along with Janiyah Drakes and Daneka Headley, counter-attacked well for Chargers, with Joseph showing her value as a middle blocker, to stifling many intended kills from her opponents.
