DON’T EXPECT LOCAL insurance companies to start lining up to cover homes in areas prone to flooding or those where land slippage.

But, the long overdue revised national building code would go a long way in helping the industry to better cover coastal properties, insurance executives say.

In the wake of the passing of Tropical Storm Harvey in the early hours of Friday morning, some residents in mostly St James and St Peter areas lamented that they were not able to secure property insurance because of where they lived.

In fact, some insurance executives feel Barbadians living in those high-risk areas should seriously consider relocating since they would remain at risk of not getting coverage in the continued absence of the building code. (BA)
