ANOTHER LUKAS now stands in the way of Darian King and history.
Barbados’ best tennis player is on the brink of making the main draw of a Grand Slam, needing just a win today against Lukas Lacko to play with the big boys at the US Open following yesterday’s huge second-round qualifying victory.
Facing towering Chilean Nicolas Jarry on a jam-packed Court 4, the 25-year-old Bajan ace overcame some dubious calls and a tight first set before riding the crowd to pull out the most impressive of victories, 7-6(4), 6-3, in an hour and 16 minutes.
The win set up a winner-takes-all showdown against Lacko, who advanced after surviving American wildcard Austin Krajicek 7-6(5), 7-6(6) later in the day. (JM)
