CARIFTA GAMES’ double medallist Tiana Bowen is leaving Barbados today for a two-year scholarship at Western Texas College in the United States.

The 18-year-old former Christ Church Foundation athlete, who earned silver in the Under-20 Girls’ 400 metres and a bronze in the 400-metre hurdles, will be pursuing studies in health and physical education.

She joins CARIFTA’s men’s 100 metres silver medallist Jaquone Hoyte, who recently left Barbados for a similar two-year scholarship at the same college to pursue a degree in sports management.

“I am very thankful the college has accepted me and I intend to ensure my grades are good in the classroom, train hard and look for good performances on the track,” a relieved Bowen told WEEKENDSPORT. (EZS)
