Council can’t endorse certificates
THE BARBADOS ACCREDITATION COUNCIL has found itself in limbo due to the unexpected indefinite closure of the department of the Royal Barbados Police Force that issues certificates of character.
The council is responsible for issuing verification certificates to hundreds of CARICOM nationals who seek employment in Barbados every year and also to Barbadians who earn degrees or diplomas at overseas universities and hope to land jobs with employers who have made it mandatory that certificates of character be presented.
“We are unable to complete the process for awarding verification certificates because of the closing of the office. Having a certificate of character is one of the requirements of that verification being issued,” Cedric Murrell, chairman of the Accreditation Council, confirmed recently.
Murrell said he signed about ten verification certificates for non-nationals every week so the police’s closing of the office that issues certificates of character has had a profound effect on their operations. (BA)
