Inniss: Shutting schools down not the way
SENIOR GOVERNMENT MINISTER Donville Inniss has thrown down the gauntlet to trade unionist Mary Redman over reports of possible class disruption during this week’s start of the new academic year.
“Don’t you shut down this school system because you feel your child ain’t get what you want, because I going to then do what I have to do to ensure my child gets what he rightfully deserves in this country, which is a sound education,” said a clearly incensed Inniss.
Redman, president the Barbados Secondary Teachers’ Union (BSTU), met with her teaching and non-teaching members last Friday and urged the Ministry of Education to do what was necessary to avoid escalated action.
The issue reportedly centred on the termination of a teacher’s employment contract at The St Michael School. (WILLCOMM)
