EVEN AS A MOTHER holds out hope her children will be found safe and returned home from hurricane-ravaged Dutch St Maarten, Barbadians have come together to give generously to their Caribbean neighbours in need.

Vicki Weekes told the DAILY NATION last night she heard from her son Shane on Sunday when he told her a 24-hour curfew was in effect, and only doctors and nurses could come out, but the connection was lost.

Shane and his sister Sabrina are trapped on the island which was ravaged by Hurricane Irma, a Category 5 system that has levelled the small country.

Vicki had made a passionate plea in yesterday’s DAILY NATION for the safe return of her two children, both teachers in St Maarten, after losing contact with them on Saturday. (SAT/RB/AD/TG)
