TWO ENTERTAINERS SUPPORT a radio station that will play 100 per cent Bajan content.

But while Smokey Burke believes that such a venture would be more lucrative for local artistes, programme manager at Starcom Network, Ronald Clarke, does not quite see it the same way.

During the media launch of Writers Block at Sky Mall yesterday, Burke said that if there was a local station that played all local music, more of the royalties that the Copyright Society Of Composers Authors And Publishers Inc. (COSCAP) paid out would stay home.

“We have a lot of music in Barbados that is being hidden by people who should know better and if we get that one station, a lot of that music will come to the top. So we are trying to get one radio station in Barbados . . . There are a million now and most of them play the same thing, but we are trying to get one to be a 100 per cent Bajan station and once that station is established, artistes will see a rise in royalties,” Burke said.
