Work harder ‘for more pay’

IF YOU WANT to take home a larger pay packet, work harder.

Former Central Bank governor Dr DeLisle Worrell said that was the reality confronting the labour force, especially public sector workers.

In a new “economic letter”, the veteran economist said because Barbados’ high standard of living relied on imports, the working population needed to produce more to earn more foreign exchange.

“Workers can expect to earn a share of the additional foreign exchange earnings only if they are more productive. On average, each worker must be enabled, motivated and equipped to produce more, of better quality, with more variety and with better service,” Worrell said. (SC)
