Barbados survives the worst

BARBADOS YET AGAIN dodged the hurricane bullet, but wind and rain still took its toll.

Crews from the Barbados Light & Power (BL&P) and Ministry of Transport and Works (MTW) were on the road trimming trees which had blown down as a result of the stormy weather.

In Shermans, on the border of St Peter and St Lucy, a BL&P crew was at work restoring power and removing branches. A resident, who requested anonymity, said a downed high tension wire created quite the spectacle.

“Out here was like fireworks. Around 2 a.m. I heard a banging noise. At first I thought it was a transformer blowing but when I looked out, it was fireworks – a high tension wire had hit the road,” he said. (CA)
