Four advance to Shield semis
THE SEMI-FINALISTS in the Barbados Cricket Association’s (BCA) Shield competition have been determined by calculators.
After last Sunday’s quarter-finals were abandoned because of rain associated with the approach of Hurricane Maria, the BCA announced yesterday that Windward, Lords, Barbados Fire Service and BRC would advance to the semi-finals set for October 1.
The four teams advanced ahead of their opponents based on tournament regulations which state that “in the event that any match in the quarter-finals ends in a ‘tie’ or a ‘no-decision’ the team with the better net run-rate in the preliminary rounds shall advance to the semi-final”.
Nine overs were possible at the Pine Basin, where Windward reached 24 for one against Psychiatric Hospital, winners of the inaugural Twenty20 Shield earlier in the season. Windward, competing in Zone ‘B’, achieved a net run-rate of 3.059 in throughout the competition, while Psychiatric Hospital’s net run-rate was 1.866. (HG)
