Sir Hilary’s goal

THE WEST INDIES HIGH Performance Centre (HPC) in Barbados, where several current Test and limited overs stars honed their skills, may soon get a new life after its recent closure.

That would happen if the University of the West Indies and its Vice Chancellor, Sir Hilary Beckles, should get their way.

Sir Hilary, who was principal of the UWI Cave Hill Campus when the centre was launched sometime ago, told the Saturday Sun that the university was pursuing efforts to breathe new life into the much-needed training centre for aspiring cricket stars even if it meant going it alone, should the West Indies Cricket Board, a partner in the original venture, decline to back its resuscitation.

“We are probably the only country in the world that is playing Test cricket but which has no academy,” Sir Hilary said. (TB)
