Vincentians stop Bajans

ST VINCENT & THE GRENADINES warmed up for the Norceca championships in Colorado, United States, with impressive wins over top Barbados teams.

The visitors who are in the island to secure US visas, followed up a 3-1 victory over Deacons by defeating double crown champions Chargers 25-16, 21-25, 25-23, 21-25, 19-17 at Oldbury on Thursday night.

St Vincent & The Grenadines had placed second in the Eastern Caribbean Volleyball Association tournament to qualify for the Norceca finals along with winners St Lucia. Also taking part will be the Caribbean Zonal Volleyball Association’s (CAZOVA) champions Trinidad & Tobago and runners-up Martinique.

Barbados, who were once the automatic regional champions and regular participants at Norceca with big guns Cuba, the US and Canada, had ended with the bronze at this year’s CAZOVA. The Norceca finals will be played from September 26 to October 2. (KB)
