Alzheimer’s facility still a goal

After five years of trying, the Barbados Alzheimer’s Association (BAA) has not given up on its goal of a respite care facility for Alzheimer’s patients.

President of the association, Pamelia Bereton, told the DAILY NATION because of the importance of a dedicated day care centre for sufferers, she would not rest until it was established and it was still an attainable objective.

Bereton’s comments were made on the sidelines of the BAA’s training seminar themed Remember Me held last week at the Savannah Hotel, Christ Church, to mark World Alzheimer’s Day.

In 2012, through the Making Sense Of Cents drive of the association and the Central Bank of Barbados, BAA set a target of $500 000 as an adequate amount to get the centre up and running. Since that time, it has only raised an estimated $137 000. (SDB Media)
