Farewell to the ‘baseline general’

Derrick Garrett got the farewell he richly deserved.

Hundreds from all across the sporting spectrum packed the Christ Church Parish Church yesterday to salute a basketball president, a friend, a family man.

Some cried, some reminisced, but all were in unison that the sport of basketball will dearly miss one of its most beloved administrators and players.

This was a “tall man” funeral service with more than 40 six-footers in the congregation. Leading the way was nephew and West Indies cricket captain Jason Holder, and former Barbados basketball stars Dwight Rouse and Andrew Alleyne, all of whom are 6 ft, 7 in, along with 6 ft, 5 in, Ianthum Alleyne.
