The durable Julian “Michael Jackson” White will battle the flamboyant Dario Hinds tonight in what should be a thrilling nightcap game of the Barbados Public Workers Co-Operative Credit Union Limited Monarchs Of The Court quarter-finals at De Big Rock Arena, Spring Garden.
Perennial finalists White and Hinds booked tonight’s appointment after the round of 16 continued on Friday night with White defeating the crowd pleaser Anthony “Baku” Simmons and Hinds stopped the hyped up Abbie “Playboy” Clarke.
Hinds’ 21-12, 22-20 defeat of Clarke provided the sole evidence that it was a round of 16 and not the wrong 16 advancing to jostle for a $60 000 car prize. Playing a number of wristy backhand shot, Clarke led his opponent 4-2 in the opening of the first game.
However, Clarke’s play became erratic as Hinds took charge, moving to 6-4 and then surging to 14-6 before taking that set. Clarke then played a more controlled game to lock the scores in the second set at 10 and with successive backhand flicks moved to 13-10. His screams whenever he won a point proved even more entertaining than his play. (KB)
