Swift move to deliver supplies

Captain Gerrit Scheper has thrown out a lifeline to victims of Hurricane Irma in the Caribbean.

Without hesitation, he assembled a crew of eight sailors and shipped supplies for hundreds of Anguillans.

He was in the process of preparing the SV Ruth, the first schooner built in Barbados in 100 years or so, for a training programme, when Irma left a path of destruction in some Caribbean islands.  

“I just felt we had to do something, especially since Irma hit a lot of countries up north,” Scheper said as he stood on the historic boat berthed at the Flour Mill, Spring Garden, St Michael, recently. (SB)
