GPO treat for staff, customers
Postal workers and customers were given a treat yesterday when World Postal Day was celebrated at the General Post Office (GPO) in Cheapside, The City.
Acting Deputy Postmaster General Iris Lashley said the treat was the GPO’s way of showing appreciation to the patrons.
“We’re celebrating World Postal Day, which is a day celebrated across the world. We are a part of the universal postal union, a union that consists of 192 countries. We celebrate World Postal Day in order to give back to the customers and allow them to recognise how important a role we play in the day-to-day community.
“For instance, in Barbados the Post Office has been an establishment in the community for 165 years, and we just take this opportunity today to celebrate the customers and our postal staff.
“We have persons from a number of organisations across Barbados, and we have come here today to share in the different services that some of these organisations give,” she said. (RA)
