Elegant Group opts out of agreement

Elegant Resorts has opted out of the Barbados Hotel & Tourism Association’s (BHTA) bargaining unit negotiating a new wages agreement with the Barbados Workers’ Union.

The group of five high-end hotels, four of which are situated on Barbados’ West Coast, will be going it alone as the BHTA enters discussion with the union for a new three-year wages agreement that should take effect on December 15.

With this decision, Elegant Resorts joins the five-star luxury Sandy Lane Hotel, which was one of the first to break away from the BHTA negotiating process.

A highly placed source told the Sunday Sun that with 1 100 employees spread through the five Elegant hotels, “our size is enough that we can negotiate on our own for terms more specific to us”. (GC)
