Cassava thief gets bail

Roland Romel Layne, 37, of #2 Edey Village, Christ Church, who was arrested and charged for the theft of 80 lbs of cassava, and faces two counts of assault, appeared before Magistrate Elwood Watts in the Oistins Magistrates Court today.

He pleaded guilty to the theft of cassava and was fined $1 000 to be paid by November 28, or 6 months in prison.

He pleaded not guilty to the two counts of assault, and was granted bail in the sum of $1 500, with one surety. He will reappear in the District ‘B’ Court on November 16.

As a condition of his bail he must report to Oistins Police station twice a week. (PR)
