Residents may sue BWA
Some South Coast residents are considering filing a class action lawsuit against the Barbados Water Authority (BWA), as they claim they are being given a different excuse each time sewage overflows into the streets.
Adrian Donovan, spokesman for the residents, said this was an ongoing problem that afflicted them whenever the rain fell.
“This suit will seek to recover compensation for those affected as it relates to loss of earnings, health issues imposed and the extra cost to them in order to be comfortable. They are at a point where they are looking to be compensated, and the best way for that may be going to the law courts,” said Donovan.
“We were told in the first instance that the Drainage Division was to blame, and then they told us the pumps broke down. After we were told the crews had to work overtime and they couldn’t afford it, and most recently an official at the BWA was quoted as saying that the problem was fixed permanently. Nothing man-made permanently. Nothing man-made can be fixed permanently, and this problem has been going on too long,” he said. (RA)
