Lloyd does trick for Christ Church West

Chai Lloyd sent a timely reminder of his goal-scoring skills to the Barbados football selectors with a hat-trick while leading Christ Church West to a 5-2 thrashing of St Philip North in the David Thompson Memorial Constituency Councils’ Classic on Friday night.

Playing at Hilda Skeene, Lloyd turned the match on its head with strikes in the 56th, 65th and 93rd minutes.

Jawin Merritt opened the scoring for Christ Church West in the 37th minute, but Reynold Best equalised for St Philip North one minute later to make it 1-1 at half-time.

Zidkigah Samuel made it 2-1 for Christ Church West in the 52nd minute before Lloyd put the game out of the reach of St Philip North, who got a consolation late goal by Renaldo Niles in the fourth minute of added time.

In the opening game, St Michael North and St Thomas played to an exciting 2-2 draw.

Barbados beach footballer Jamar Grazette showed he is also good on grass with a brace in the third and 39th minutes for St Michael North. Shaquille Stewart (23rd) and Nicholas Griffith (70th) were on target for St Thomas.

At Blenheim “A”, St Lucy edged St Michael North West 4-3, overcoming a hat-trick from Keon Atkins in a losing cause, while St Michael Central defeated home team St Michael East 1-0 through Zinio Harris’ late winner in the 81st minute St Lucy drew first blood, courtesy a 24th minute goal by Kemar Chase, but Atkins equalised in the 35th minute for St Michael North West. Goals by Antoine Corbin (38th), Nathan Broomes (57th), Kadeem Atwell (64th) gave St Lucy a 4-1 lead.

Atkins tried to rally St Michael North West with his second goal in the 83rd minute and completed his hat-trick in the third minute of time added on, but it was not enough. (EZS)
