BAG FEE SNAG

IT’S NOW LOOKING LIKE January 2018 for the full-scale roll-out of the Plastic Bag Deterrent Fee.

And an official of the Future Centre Trust is laying blame for the delay on the industrialised country in which the reusable bags are being printed.

“We are waiting for the Big 4 to get their bags but it is still in effect. We have not backed down,” declared the Future Centre Trust’s director of advocacy, Kammie Holder.

It was last November when the idea for a deterrent fee to reduce the number of single-use plastic bags was mooted. It was a collaboration between the Future Centre Trust and BICO, and would see customers paying a 15 cent fee for every plastic bag they received from merchants. (HLE)
