Members of the Drug Squad have charged two Barbadian men for a number of drug-related offences which were allegedly committed at the Grantley Adams International Airport on October 27.

They are Jacques-Stephen Alexander Hibbert, 21, of 5th Avenue, Rockley New Road, Christ Church, and Dwight Richardson Manningham Scott, 36, of Airy Scott, St Thomas.

They were separately charged with possession of cannabis, possession with intent to supply, trafficking and importation.

Police say Hibbert and Scott arrived on the island by air from Canada.

A search of their luggage by Customs Officers allegedly revealed that Scott had ten transparent vacuum-sealed packages containing cannabis concealed in a false bottom of two suitcases.

Hibbert allegedly had 48 similar packages concealed n wooden boxes in two black duffle bags.  Police were informed and the two men were subsequently arrested and charged.

Police say each man was in possession of 6 kilogrammes of cannabis with an estimated street value of $48 000.

They appeared before Chief Magistrate Christopher Birch in the District “C” Magistrates’ Court today.

Hibbert pleaded guilty to the offences and was remanded to prison until November 2, 2017, pending a pre-sentencing report.

Scott pleaded not guilty and was granted bail in the sum of $2 500, with one surety.

He is expected to reappear in the District “B” Court on November 14. (PR/NB)
