Tennis ace Darian King found the nets again, but his Christ Church East Central bowed out of the David Thompson Memorial Constituency Councils Football Classic after crashing to defeat against Christ Church West in a five-goal thriller on Friday night.

Playing in the first game of second round double-header at Eden Lodge, Christ Church West prevailed 3-2 to clinch a place in the quarter-finals.

An enthralling first half produced four goals, setting the stage for decisive second period, in which Chai Lloyd sealed the winner with his second goal of the game 18 minutes from the end.

Christ Church West took an early lead in the fifth minute through Kemar Smith before Shakem Shepherd equalised for Christ Church East Central in the 19th minute.

Lloyd found the nets five minutes later to give Christ Church West a 2-1 lead but the game was level again when King converted six minutes before half time to make it 2-2. It was his third goal in two weeks following a double-strike in Christ Church East Central’s final preliminary match against St Michael Central.

With all to play for in the second half, Lloyd bagged the winning goal to send the 2015 champions out of the tournament.

St Michael North also advanced to the quarter-finals with a 2-1 win over St Michael South Central, thanks to a first half brace from Jamar Grazette in the night-cap game.

Grazette scored in the ninth minute and added another on the stroke of half-time.

Corey “Santa” Barrow pulled a goal back for St Michael South Central in the 60th minute, but St Michael North held on for the victory. (HG)
