High surf advisory and small craft warning in effect until Sunday
A high surf advisory and small craft warning are in effect for Barbados.
The Barbados Meteorological Services said a deep-layered low pressure system has been generating large swells over the central Atlantic.
Some of these swells are propagating southwards across the Lesser Antilles and are forecast to affect the coastlines around Barbados over the next few days.
Large waves and dangerous rip-currents will create unsafe conditions for small-craft operators.
Sea-bathers and other users of the sea are also advised to stay out of the water.
This activity is expected to persist into late Sunday and may become even more adverse at times of high tide.
The advisory and warning will remain in effect until 6 p.m. on Sunday December 10, 2017. A small craft warning means in this case that seas equal to or greater than 3m (10ft) will be affecting the marine area.
A high surf advisory is issued when breaking wave action poses a threat to life and property within the surf zone. (PR/NB)
