‘Snap’ out of it
Prime Minister Freundel Stuart will be going down to the wire. He made it clear yesterday his Government intended to serve its full term before calling elections.
Stuart told members of the House of Assembly: “You are given five years, serve five years. Don’t throw back the time that the people were so good to give you, back in their faces.”
While introducing a resolution for a supplementary vote for $501 067 to get the Electoral and Boundaries Commission (EBC) ready for general elections constitutionally due by June 2018, the Prime Minister dismissed any notion that he would soon be ringing the bell for elections.
The money voted in the resolution, which was later passed, would provide for 13 additional temporary staff at the EBC, including one senior executive officer, as well as the rental of two scanners for the Electoral Department, for three months, to complete the scanning of National Registration cards.
