The family of Barbados’ newest centenarian have been told to remember to visit and spend time with her at the senior home.
This advice came from Governor General Dame Sandra Mason when she visited Marjorie Banfield at Egvinalle Senior Citizens Home, Weston, St James, yesterday.
“Continue to take very good care of her because I am sure she will reach 109. All of you remember to visit because it is not only on occasions such as this that people need your support, it would be really good if you continue to visit,” Dame Sandra told the family gathered, particularly those who live in Barbados.
It was Dame Sandra’s first visit with a centenarian since she was sworn in as Barbados’ eighth Governor General on Monday.
“It has been a really great pleasure to come here today to say happy birthday to Miss Banfield. A lot of us are not going to reach that age and it is evident that she lived the right life in order to reach such a milestone,” the Governor General said.
Banfield, a former English teacher, who spent about 30 years in the service before retiring early at age 50, was never married and has no children. (LK)
