HOBART, Tasmania – Barbados and West Indies teenaged batting star, Hayley Matthews, gathered her highest score this season but Hobart Hurricanes’ wretched, winless run continued with a 10-wicket defeat to Melbourne Renegades on Sunday.

Sent in at the Bellerive Oval, Hurricanes were bowled out for 100 in the 19th over, with the right-handed Matthews top-scoring with a run-a-ball 40.

The 19-year-old counted seven fours in her knock, putting on a run-a-ball 62 for the first wicket with Stefanie Daffara who made 27 from 28 balls.

Once Matthews was dismissed in the 11th over, however, the innings plunged into terminal decline with 10 wickets going down for 38 runs.

Twenty-year-old seamer Maitlan Brown caused the damage with three for 28 while Amy Satterthwaite supported with two for 10.

In reply, Sophie Molineux stroked an unbeaten 53 off 39 deliveries as Renegades raced to their target in the 12th over.

The 19-year-old left-hander struck 10 boundaries while her partner Emma Inglis supported with 42 not out off 32 balls, with five fours and six.

Hurricanes are yet to win a match in nine outings this season and are rooted at the bottom of the Women’s Big Bash League standings without a point. (CMC)
