UPDATE: Cyclist dies following accident

Police are investigating the circumstances surrounding a road fatality which occurred around 3:48 p.m. today, along University Hill, St Michael. It involved a bicyclist, a motor car, and a van, and resulted in the death of the cyclist.

The bicycle was being ridden by a 50-year-old St Michael man, while the car was being driven by Susan Fitt, 53, of Fitts Villages, St James, and the van by Eric Allamby, 30, of Black Bess, St Peter.

Preliminary investigations revealed that the bicyclist was travelling downhill, when he collided head-on with the car, before striking the van. He received injuries to his head, right leg and wrist, and was transported to the Queen Elizabeth Hospital by ambulance, where he later succumbed to his injuries.

Police are appealing to anyone who may have witnessed this accident or can provide any information to assist in the investigation, to contact the District ‘A’ Police station at telephone 430-7242 or 430-7246. (PR)
