UPDATE: Police investigating road fatality

Police are on the scene investigating the circumstances surrounding the death of a male a passenger in a vehicle at Brereton, St Philip this morning.

Update

Police are investigating the circumstances surrounding a road fatality which occurred around 7:55 this morning, along Brereton Road, St Philip.

It involved a car and a lorry, and resulted in the death of a 49-year-old St Philip man, who was a passenger in the car.

The car was being driven by Valdene Burton, 56, of Hannays Valley, Christ Church, who was accompanied, by the deceased. The lorry was being driven by Ken Williams, 49, of Four Roads, St Philip. 

Preliminary investigations revealed that the vehicles were travelling in the opposite directions, when they became involved in a side-on collision.

The driver of the car, Vadene Burton, complained of pain to her back, left side, and neck, and was transported to the Queen Elizabeth Hospital by ambulance. Her passenger died at the scene.

The driver of the lorry did not complain of pain, but was traumatised as a result of the collision.

Two fire tenders, and eight Fire Officers under the command of Divisional Officer Errol Gaskin, responded to the accident. The Jaws of Life was utilised to extricate the driver and her passenger from the car.

Investigations are continuing. (PR)
