An unbeaten half-century by No. 11 Omar Francis in a hundred-run last-wicket partnership set the stage for Welches to defeat Steve’s Building Works Welchman Hall Colts by 26 runs in the final of the St Thomas Cricket Competition on Sunday at Lears.
Sent in to bat, Welches were reeling on 59 for nine, with seamer Diego Stuart and left-arm spinner Pius Emilien grabbing four wickets each.
But Francis joined No. 4 batsman Joshua Drakes and the pair featured in a match-winning stand of 114 runs to lift Welches to a challenging total of 173 in 29.3 overs.
Francis lashed four fours and three sixes in an unbeaten 51, while Drakes made 61 with two fours and three sixes.
In reply, Welchman Hall Colts were dismissed for 147 in 27.4 overs as West Indies One-Day off-spinner Ashley Nurse took four wickets for 24.
Former Barbados fast bowler Ryan Nurse wrapped up the innings with three wickets in the space of four balls to end with four for 29.
