The return of Trevor “Electric Micey” Manning is among the main ingredients of Sunday’s Barbados Rally Club (BRC) Carter’s Pit-Stop Stages Rally.
In the company of his son Sam, as co-driver, “Micey” will be driving Car Zero, the Mitsubishi Lancer Turbo which was originally campaigned with great success by his father Roger.
Adding to the anticipation is the presence of Scotland’s Andy Scott, seeded No.5 for his debut event in Barbados in a recently acquired Ford Fiesta R5.
He heads a four-strong Group A class, which now includes Andrew Mallalieu, who has upgraded his former GpN Impreza.
The seeding is headed by reigning BRC champion driver Jamaica’s Jeff Panton and co-driver Mike Fennell Jr in a Ford Focus WRC06, who will start ahead of the of Roger “The Sheriff” Skeete and new co-driver Eric Allamby.
Also in the mix are Britain’s Rob Swann with regular co-driver Darren Garrod, fresh from winning last Saturday’s Rallynuts Stages, Round 3 of the Pirelli MSA Welsh Rally Championship, in the company of Matt Edwards in a Ford Fiesta. Roger “The Ninja” Hill and Graham Gittens complete the WRC class in their Toyota Corolla WRC.
Among the two-wheel-drive competitors, the fight for honours promises some fireworks, with 2014 and 2015 BRC champion driver Rhett Watson entered in SuperModified 3 in a BMW M3 as the top seed.
Other strong contenders are Barry Mayers, who is entered in SM2 in a Ford Fiesta, Dane Skeete in a Peugeot 306 Maxi, and 2016 champion Driver Daryl Clarke, who has moved his Honda Civic into SM2.
Carter’s General Stores marketing director Brian Hurley said Carter’s Pit Stop Stages Rally fitted in well with the restructuring of the company’s commitment to motor sport after experiencing success with the Power King range of batteries in the consumer market, before the Odyssey Batteries were introduced.
The rally will start at 9:30 a.m. from Kendal Plantation service area. (TT)
