Jason Holder has landed another captaincy appointment.

The West Indies Test and One-Day International skipper will take over from Kieron Pollard as Barbados Tridents captain for the 2018 Hero Premier League.

In making the announcement yesterday, the Tridents said Holder brought a huge amount of captaincy experience to the squad and his ability both as a player and leader would be a massive boost to the team’s chances.

Holder has made limited appearances for the Tridents in recent years and missed the 2017 tournament because of West Indies duties in England.

“I am delighted to be back at the Hero CPL for this season and I am really looking forward to making Barbados [Tridents] proud in 2018,” Holder said.

“We have a healthy contingent of local players in the squad . . . and we are ready to make this a winning year for our home team.”

Holder replaces Pollard as captain after the Trinidadian, who led the Tridents in each of the first five tournaments since the CPL started in 2013 before switching to St Lucia Stars earlier this year.

Youthful all-rounder Shamar Springer, a member of the champion West Indies Under-19 team of 2016, expressed his delight at Holder’s appointment as the Tridents captain.

“Jason is a world-class player and a world-class captain that I have always looked up to as an example to follow.I am really excited to play under him as captain and I am confident he will get the best out of the Trident team . . . .”

Holder has led West Indies in 77 international matches. He wlll be looking to lead the Tridents to the knockout stages of the tournament after they missed out on the final stages last year.

The CPL will start on August 8. Each team has a roster of 18 cricketers, with the top salary slot netting the players US$160 000. The 2018 draft saw a record 227 overseas players and 121 West Indian cricketers up for selection. (HG/PR)
