Barbados will join worldwide celebrations to mark International Biodiversity Day on Tuesday, May 22.

Under the global theme for 2018, Celebrating 25 Years of Action for Biodiversity, the Ministry of the Environment and Drainage will this year reflect on the importance of 25 years of the implementation of the Convention on Biological Diversity and its various protocols at the national level.

The conservation and management of biodiversity has contributed greatly towards the sustainable development of the country.

To celebrate this milestone, the Ministry, as the focal point for the Convention, will conduct school tours with students from the St Bartholomew, St Christopher, Eagle Hall and Ellerton Primary Schools, along with the Wesley Hall Infants and Junior Schools.

These tours will be conducted at the Folkestone Park and Marine Reserve, Holetown, St James, between Monday, May 14, and Friday, May 18, where the contributions of the implementation of the Convention on Biological Diversity will be highlighted and explained. All tours begin at 9:30 a.m.

The Ministry of the Environment and Drainage continues its annual efforts to work with its adopted schools and those with environmental clubs to undertake activities in areas of biodiversity conservation and sustainable land management. (BGIS)
