The Barbados Cricket Supplies Barbados Youth delivered a serious knockout punch and floored three-time defending champions Sagicor UWI in their morning encounter of the Sagicor General Twenty20 Cup at Rices, St Philip, on Sunday.
Chasing 147 for victory, five-time kings UWI, after losing three wickets with only four runs on the board, were dismissed for 120 in 18.4 overs.
UWI’s Anthony Alleyne counter-attacked with 69 from 54 balls, including nine threes and six fours. He was ninth out with 42 required from 18 balls.
Barbados Youth captain Joshua Bishop capped an excellent all-round game, taking three for 19. Camarie Boyce, Kadeem Alleyne and Shakkae Marshall assisted with two wickets each.
Openers Ryshon Williams and Shian Brathwaite set the tone, adding 50 in 6.1 overs as Barbados Youth made a respectable 146 for seven from 20 overs. Brathwaite made 16 and Williams fell in the next over for 33 off 22 balls after striking five threes and three fours.
Jadan Jones, who hit 28 not out off 21 balls, and Bishop, 27 off 23 balls, shared what turned out to be a match-winning seventh-wicket stand of 45 in 31 balls. Larry Edward took three for 25 for UWI. (EH)
