SOCIAL SCENE: Luminaries gather at UWI
Stars from local artistic circles rubbed shoulders with University of the West Indies (UWI) officials, prominent figures from the business community and a host of other guests when the UWI, Cave Hill Campus, staged The Luminaries Gala at the campus last week.
The fund-raising event saw Governor General Dame Sandra Mason and her predecessor Sir Elliott Belgrave who was accompanied by Lady Belgrave and their daughter Susan Belgrave-Matheson, dining with specially invited cultural “stars” such as painter Ras Akyem, entertainers Edwin Yearwood, Anderson MRBLOOD Armstrong, Emile Straker, Alison Hinds, Nicholas Brancker and Anthony “Gabby” Carter.
Performances by Terry Mexican Arthur, and the Wesley Morris Trio added a rich musical flavour to the four-course dinner served up by chef John Hazzard, while 2 Mile Hill and Gerald B Sounds played the dance music towards the end for the black tie affair at which both men and women were dressed up to the nines.
