It is winner take all at tonight’s Mr Bridgetown Bikini Fitness, Bodybuilding and Physique Championships slated for the Lloyd Erskine Sandiford Centre, with only the champions pocketing money. The winners of each division will walk away with $1 000 with the Mr Bridgetown and the Bikini Fitness expected to be the main drawing cards. The runners-up will have to be consoled with trophies.

National champion Shakira Doughlin and the fast-rising Vanessa Jones are expected to dominate the Bikini Fitness contest. The 27-year-old Doughlin is the raging hot favourite, having conquered every local contest for the last few years in addition to making an impact on the global stage highlighted by a bronze medal placing in her class at the Amateur Olympia in Las Vegas, last September.

Jones, 30, who will be competing on behalf of Flawless Performance Centre, has impressed all and sundry since making her debut last season. The affable Jones had three second places in 2017, each time losing to Doughlin, but there is no denying her promise.

Doughlin and Jones should hold the sway in a field that also comprises Geanna Jules and Nicole Morelli.

This is the first time there will be Mr and Miss Sexy Bridgetown and hopes are high that these new contests will make an impact. Barbados Amateur Bodybuilding & Fitness Federation (BABBFF) president Dr Alfred Sparman said, he expects these two new contests will be a hit with the fans.

Miss Barbados 2003 Raquel Wilkinson and media personality Anthony Admiral Nelson, are among a group of celebrity judges who will oversee these competitions. Vanessa Jones has a busy night as she will be struggling her physique in the Miss Sexy Bridgetown contest.

The men’s Physique competition is wide open with the absence of Mr Barbados Hadley Hoyte and fellow national representative Jamil Jones. Both men are taking a break after competing at last month’s Arnold Classic Brazil in Sao Paulo.

Deono James, who competed in Brazil, will be one to watch, but much is also expected of Julian Belgrave, Alex Ifill and Shane Massiah.

Bodybuilding is the major showpiece of the programme and fans are hoping for an enthralling duel between last year’s champion Ramon Broomes and exciting22-year-old Shaquile Lavine, the 2015 winner. (MK)
