Common Entrance students have fun

Article by John Sealy

No party can stop this jam. This might have been the thought of Democratic Labour Party candidate for St Michael North West, Chris Sinckler, as the date for the 2018 General Election coincided with his annual jamboree for Common Entrance students in his constituency.

The Saturday Sun caught up with Sinckler, who is also Minister of Finance, at Casa Grande Barbados as the Class 4 students enjoyed themselves at the St Philip facility yesterday.

He said the programme had been going for five years and was an opportunity for the students to de-stress after the exam, which was held last Tuesday.

“For them the exam is finished. But in terms of clashing with the elections, the plans for the event were done before we knew the date of the elections,” said Sinckler.

He said the fun day was part of an outreach that included scenic rides for the elderly last week.

“We thought it would be unfair for this cohort of Class 4s to miss out on the opportunity because of the elections,” noted Sinckler as he thanked the teachers, other volunteers and also owner of Casa Grande, Mrs Ram Merchandani, for facilitating the event.

About 250 students were part of the affair. (JS)
