Former Prime Minister, Owen Arthur has sent off a congratulatory note to the Barbados Labour Party (BLP) for its impressive win at the polls Thursday night.

“I want to offer heartfelt congratulations to the Barbados Labour Party on their victory,” Arthur, the outgoing MP for St Peter, told the Saturday Sun in a brief statement today.

“I wish them the very best in all their endeavours,”  said Arthur, now retired from elective politics, having sat the last few months of his Parliamentary career as an Independent in the House of Assembly.

Arthur, a former Barbados Labour Party leader, was Prime Minister for 14 years, from 1994 until 2008, when the David Thompson-led Democratic Labour Party earned back the Government.

The BLP re-took the reins Thursday night, with an unprecedented 30-0 sweep of the Freundel Stuart-led DLP.

Stuart had taken over as Prime Minister in 2010 after Thompson’s untimely death from complications due to pancreatic cancer. (BA)
