He misses court and you will pay. That was the warning given to the mother of Tremaine Dario “Pepper” Yarde when she and Yarde appeared in the District “A” Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday.

Yarde, 24, of Rock Gap, Spooners Hill, St Michael, had been remanded last month after his original surety withdrew because he refused to attend court.

He is accused of assaulting Vincent Davis on March 19 and escaping from Central Police Station without the use of force on the same date.

On Tuesday, Magistrate Kristie Cuffy-Sargeant told his mother, who signalled her willingness to sign her son’s bail, that Yarde had not been attending court and had been remanded when his former surety withdrew her bail.

“If Mr Yarde is granted bail and he is not coming to court, you will have to pay,” the magistrate warned her.

She allowed Yarde $8 000 bail, which his mother signed, and ordered him to report to District “A” Police Station every Tuesday and Thursday.

The accused, who was represented by Angella Mitchell-Gittens, will reappear on November 12.

When Yarde initially appeared in March this year, he was remanded on the two charges after the prosecution pointed to the fact that he was appearing on a second assault charge in relation to the same complainant.

The prosecution had also argued that the escaping custody charge showed Yarde was a flight risk.

However, Yarde told the court the complainant was “obsessed over me”.

“Even if you put me on a curfew or a bond; even if I have to report to the station or anything so, I don’t want to go back to prison,” he had pleaded.

In relation to the escape charge, the accused had told the court: “You know how some people don’t like gays. The way them was treating me, them was disrespecting me. Them was telling me to run.” (HLE/RA)
