Mosaic craft with Bajan touch
It is 100 per cent Barbadian and 100 per cent handmade. This striking mosaic piece by multi-talented craftswoman Candi Nicholls captured the eye during yesterday’s Limegrove Home & Garden Show at Limegrove, Holetown, St James.
The wall hanging depicts a woman with a basket on her head and flowers on her skirt.
Nicholls told THE NATION she sourced the clay locally, rolled the tiles, cut them to size when wet and baked and glazed them, before they were into the design.
The smaller pieces for the flowers and the basket were chipped into the present shapes.
Nicholls, who also makes fascinators and jewellery, said she has used the clay and mosaic medium for mirrors, tabletops, back splashes, plant pots, vases and decorative crosses and boxes. (SAT)
