Barbadian filmmakers will be given the opportunity to showcase their work in Argentina.

Argentine Ambassador Gustavo Martinez Pandiani announced that for the first time, two Barbadian filmmakers will be invited to the internationally-renowned Mar del Plata Film Festival being held in Argentina in November.

Speaking at the opening of the three-day inaugural Argentine Film Festival in Barbados, Pandiani acknowledged the rich cultural history of the two countries and said he would be maximising opportunities to give exposure to the Argentine cultural arts here while making it possible for the people of his country to see what Barbados has to offer in this area.

Addressing an audience at the Walcott Warner Theatre at the Errol Barrow Centre for Creative Imagination which included Minister of Culture John King, local film makers and other artistes, Pandiani disclosed that the Argentine Embassy here had organised a programme of cultural activities for 2018 to honour 50 years of common history between the two countries, under the slogan Celebrating Our Friendship; Sharing Our Culture.

Three Argentine films were screened during the Barbados festival.

Argentina’s sole Reggae singer Fidel Nadal performed at the recent Pan Pun De Sand at Brandon’s Beach. Barbadians will also get the opportunity to see Argentine tango dancers Victoria Crisci and Rodrigo Malpezzi in action during Bridgetown Market at Spring Garden on August 5. (GC)
