SOCIAL SCENE: Argentine Film Festival opens
Governor General Dame Sandra Mason headed the list of guests attending opening night of the inaugural Argentine Film Festival in Barbados.
The event marked the 202nd anniversary of Argentina’s independence and 50 years of diplomatic relations between Argentina and Barbados.
Parliamentarians, business leaders and prominent figures in the local film and creative arts community were also at the Errol Barrow Centre For Creative Imagination for the screening of the festival’s first film El Cuidadano Ilustre (The Distinguished Citizen), which kicked off the three-night festival. It chronicled the life of Argentine Nobel Prize winner for literature Daniel Mantovani.
Before sitting down to view the film, guests enjoyed Argentine Navarro Correas wine during the cocktail reception.
Host, Argentine Ambassador Gustavo Martinez Pandiani said in his opening remarks the film festival was the first event in “an ambitious programme” of cultural activities which the embassy would be staging for 2018. (GC)
