At least three church leaders are calling for action in light of Anglican cleric Clifford Hall’s description of the Bible as “some silly words written in a book thousands of years ago” during a recent Pride Barbados Parade.

“I denounce him in the name of Jesus. He has no authority to call God’s infallible, inherent word silly,” said Reverend Vincent Wood on Sunday during his sermon An Important Conversation at the Emmanuel Baptist Church.

Subsequently Wood told the NATION that if Hall is still within the ranks of the Anglican Church his superiors should come out and say something, explaining that within the Baptist fold the offending person would have to apologise or be defrocked.

“You can’t have a person defying what we seek to promote. That is where we get our word from,” said Wood, who is a former vice president of the Baptist World Alliance and former president of the Caribbean Baptist Fellowship. (AC/TG)
