Aussie master batsman and former captain Steve Smith, is here and ready to boost the Barbados Tridents’ bid to improve on last year’s disappointing showing in the Caribbean Premier league (CPL).

Smith, Hashim Amla of South Africa and Martin Guptill of New Zealand headline the overseas players in the line-up for the 2014 winners, who will be seeking to improve on last year’s disappointing fifth place. Guptill will resume the batting partnership he had with Dwayne Smith after they played together for Guyana Amazon Warriors in 2016.

On Tuesday, the 29-year-old Smith, who is facing an international bans, imposed by Cricket Australia, for ball tampering in March, was in the nets at the Three Ws Oval preparing for the Tridents’ opening match on Sunday against Guyana Amazon Warriors at the Providence Stadium in Guyana.

The sixth edition of the CPL starts on Wednesday with Trinbago Knight Riders clashing with St Lucia Stars at Queen’s Park Oval in Trinidad. (MK)
