CIBC helping fund YMCA
CIBC FirstCaribbean has agreed to give the Young Men’s Christians Association (YMCA) thousands of dollars over the next three years, which will benefit many underprivileged children.
This was announced on Wednesday during a signing of a memorandum of understanding between the two agencies at the bank’s Warrens, St Michael office.
The signing was attended by general secretary of the Latin American and Caribbean Alliance (LACA) of YMCAs, Antonio Merino, Barbados YMCA president Emerald Holder and the bank’s chief executive officer Gary Brown.
Brown said that for each year they would give US$50 000 to the local arm of the international non-governmental organisation.
The grant will be supporting after-school programmes, providing scholarships, training opportunities for staff, sharing of resources, tools and enhancing six YMCA chapters. Countries to receive assistance include Aruba, Grand Bahamas, Jamaica, the Cayman Islands and Trinidad and Tobago.
Holder said the financial contribution had come at a great time considering the YMCA had seen a decrease in sponsorship. (TG)
