It just won’t be business as usual at the National Sports Council (NSC). That’s because extrovert track and field and basketball coach Mac Fingall will be in charge of the Government-run institution for the next three years.
Fingall is chairman of an 11-member board that includes two chief administrators in Catherine Jordan, president of the Amateur Association of Barbados (AAB), and Nisha Craigwell, president of the Barbados Netball Association (BNA). Jordan is deputy chairman.
The choice of two sitting presidents is bound to create plenty of debate and already one former top sportsman has raised questions.
“To have two sitting presidents may not have been the smartest thing to do. Boards look at things like funding and disciplinary issues and it seems like the Sports Council is skating on thin ice with these selections. If there are delicate issues facing athletics and netball, are the two presidents going to excuse themselves? (MK/RA)
