The board of the Barbados Youth Development Council (BYDC) is on a mission to mainstream the concerns of the youth.

News of this agenda came on Friday during the launch of the BYDC’s day of activities to commemorate International Youth Day, which is celebrated on August 12.

President of the association Roshana Trim said that through the organisation’s Project Youth 246 initiative, launched on June 30, the BYDC would be hosting a series of activities to involve the youth of each community, and give them opportunities to speak about social issues concerning them.

“The project aims to engage young Barbadians, from different backgrounds, through grassroots work such as walkthroughs.

“At the end, the hope is to develop a youth strategy for over a three year period, which allows youth organisations and other stakeholders to actively know what is going to happen next, how they can be involved and fit in their mandate and what needs to be done for young people for them to be able to contribute as world citizens.”

The launch was held at the UN house, Marine Gardens, Christ Church.

On Sunday from 2 p.m. till 10 p.m. there would be a youth talent showcase and a safe space at the Barbados Museum where young people could express their concerns and highlight the issues they are experiencing. (SB)
