Windfall for King?

The wind may play a part at this year’s US Open. Advantage: King.

Barbados’ top tennis player Darian King believes the current overcast and windy conditions in Flushing Meadows could actually work out in his favour after growing accustomed to playing at a gusty National Tennis Centre back home.

King expressed the sentiment during an outdoor practice session with American left-hander Evan King ahead of Tuesday’s much-awaited start of the qualifying rounds.

“Hopefully this will play to my advantage because I’m used to playing Davis Cup in the heavy winds, but I’m still not praying for it because I would rather the heat take its toll on the guys as I like to play physical tennis,” said the 26-year-old baseliner. (JM)
